With its thriving ceramic and other sectors, Morbi district has been the major revenue earner for PGVCL. It has also emerged as the leading district in Saurashtra for the ‘Surya Ghar’ solar rooftop project. Since 2019, when the project was launched, a total of 8,862 solar rooftop installations have been completed in the district. Interestingly, Morbi leads Saurashtra in solar park development. Today, 59 solar parks in the district are generating 126.34 megawatts of electricity.
The PM Surya Ghar scheme of the state and central governments, which helps reduce electricity bills to zero and facilitates revenue generation, has seen a huge response across the state. As many as 8,862 consumers have installed solar rooftops since the implementation of the project in Morbi in 2019, of which 8,248 are residential consumers and 304 are commercial consumers. Morbi ranks third in Saurashtra in adopting solar rooftops under PGVCL.
But when it comes to power generation from solar parks, Morbi is the leading district in Saurashtra. Chief Engineer of PGVCL Morbi Circle D.R. Ghadiya informed that there are 59 solar parks in the district, which generate 126.34 megawatts of electricity. Another 24 solar parks will come on stream by the end of 2025, which will add another 73.90 megawatts to the total generation. Significantly, 3.72 lakh LT and 2,246 HT power connections are available in Morbi district, making it the highest revenue-generating district for PGVCL.
Morbi exceeds solar rooftop target
Morbi district has been assigned a target of 17,200 solar rooftops for 2024-25 to 2026-27. The target for the current year has been set at 5,160 installations. So far, 27,485 applications have been registered, of which 7,584 applications have been filed and 6,226 solar rooftop systems have already been installed, exceeding the set target.
